Korea 2015 Travelogue Day 1

Can't even remember when was the last time hubby and I went on a trip together, just the 2 of us. This year, we thought we really should plan one as gor gor will be starting primary 1 next year and it will be even tougher for us to have a couple trip. Fortunately for us, my mum agreed to look after the kids and told us to "go as long as you want"! Keke... so off we went to a 10 days trip to South Korea!

Why South Korea? Because the kids won't be with us and we can have spicy food for every meal! lol

Took the midnight flight, Korean Air, food sux... big time. I had the most disgusting plastic container prepacked microwaved porridge ever.

Will be spending the first night in a traditional Korean house, Hanok. We took a airport limousine bus 6011 which brought us straight to Anguk Station which is where Bukchon Hanok Village is.

Along the way, I saw my fav food, sugar glazed sweet potato. Basically I love everything sweet potato.

Dropped our luggage at the hanok and went off for lunch. The much anticipated samgyetang (chicken ginseng soup) at the infamous Tosokchon. There was quite a long q but waiting time wasn't long.

This is the menu on display. Very limited choices but I think there should be more but not showed to the tourists as I saw servers serving fried chicken to another table of guests.

Looks rich but the taste is surprisingly light, not salty at all. And smells so good.

If you need a closer look. :P

Once we sat down, we were served these 2 cups of drink. The hubby, without asking what's in the cups, took the smaller cup and down it in one gulp and then he looked like this @.@
It is a cup of ginseng infused liquor, meant to be added to the soup or you may also drink it on it's own, just perhaps... downing it in one gulp unprepared is not a good idea.

We had the seafood pancake too but we felt that this is nothing fantastic and too filling for us. If we are to visit again, we can skip this and order another type of ginseng chicken to try.

After lunch, we walked pass Gyeongbokgung Palace and caught the guard-changing ceremony.

Took a stroll toward Samcheongdong and loving all the quaint little shops lining both side of the street.

This churros is sooo good. I wonder where that self-discipline came from and decided to share this with the hub.

Next stop, coffee break.

Complimentary scones when you order any drink and these are so good I wonder why they don't sell them instead.

Everything tasted so good, I swear I am not feeling this way cos I'm on holiday ecstasy.

Such cute latte art. We noticed 90% of the customers are ladies. The only 2 guys there were with their girlfriends. Guess this place is too cutesy for the guys.

Pretty decors like these are at every corners of the cafe.

Our stroll continued back to Bukchon area.

Caught the sunset at the top of the hill.

Picture taken outside the hanok we stayed in.

We stayed a night in Bukchon Maru Hanok Guesthouse. It's a traditional Korean house, the type where u sleep and sit on the floor. I thought it will be a nice experience but I'm not sure about sleeping on the floor and I know for sure hubby doesn't feel comfortable sitting on the floor. So it was for only 1 night, just for a been there, done that record.

We booked the double room with private bathroom. Altho it's a private bathroom for us, it's not an en-suite bathroom. Not much inconvenience tho it can get chilly when you step out of the heated bedroom to walk to the bathroom.

The bedroom has heated floor which made the room nice and cosy despite it being freezing cold outside. I have no complains about the mattress on the floor or the traditional pillows provided but isn't the mattress size a little too small to be a "double"? I can't imagine bigger size couples squeezing to sleep on this.

Even the bathroom floor is heated.

The owner prepares breakfast for their guests daily. It was very yummy altho I'm not too used to having a meal of rice and soup for breakfast. Bukchon Maru Guesthouse also provide hanbok for their guests to try on and to take photo with. Overall, it was a nice experience.
